His Imperial Merchant gift had always been an external thing — a ledger laid over the world, a window, a counting-house he visited. The seed was *inside*, rooted in the hollow his domain had left, and it pressed on him the way the provincial soul pressed on him — that same weight, that same vertigo of suddenly sensing far more than a man should hold — except where his king-soul gave him the weight of a *domain*, a thing to keep and order and move, the seed gave him a different sense entirely, and the difference was the most frightening thing Krishna had ever felt in his own body.\n\nIt was the sight in which *everything is consumable.*\n\nHe looked at the deathzone with the seed's eyes and the world rearranged itself into food. The dozen masters charging him — not enemies, not threats: *vitality*, energy, life, each one a quantity of fuel the seed could see precisely, could *taste* at a distance, could tell him exactly how much stronger each death would make him. The Vanguard's soldiers closing on Tara — fuel. Dragomir, drifting and red-eyed — rich, ancient, *delicious* fuel. The crystal, the dead in the crystal, the warped beasts at the rings, the very stone underfoot — all of it consumable, all of it the seed's to eat and turn into more of itself, more of *him*, a strength that thrived on this energy-drowned land the way a fire thrives on a flood of oil. The seed was small. He felt that too — small, young, freshly rooted, no bigger than a spark. And small as it was, it was already *Foundation Establishment*, and it told him, without words, with the terrible patient delight he'd felt when it burrowed in: *feed me, and there is no end to how strong we become. Eat them. Eat all of them. Eat the world.*\n\nHe could have done it. That was the thing that would haunt him. Hollow and faded and one against dozens, Krishna Verma had, in the seed, the power *right now* to turn and consume the whole field — to become a demon in the heart of the deathzone and eat the masters of the world's traditions alive, the way the keeper had warned, the way a thing called Vetaal back home was learning to do on a smaller scale, the way the Concord did to galaxies. The power was real and it was his and it was offered freely.\n\nAnd he understood, in the same instant, exactly why he could not use it.\n\nBecause the seed did not give power for free. The keeper had told him the whole of it: *ride it, and the moment your grip slips, it swallows you.* And to use it — to truly open the consuming-sight and eat, to let that hunger run — was to *loosen the grip on purpose.* Every life he took with it would feed the seed and the seed would grow and the larger it grew the harder it would be to hold, and somewhere in the eating he would stop being Krishna riding a seed and become a seed wearing Krishna, and there would be no line he could point to where it happened. Worse — he felt this with a cold certainty, a hint the seed let slip in its eagerness — *he did not even have to choose to eat.* Here, in this energy-rich place, with the seed fresh and hungry, **killing anyone at all would feed it whether he willed it or not.** A death near him was a meal; the seed would *reach for it unconsciously*, drink the fuel of anyone he struck down, and grow a little more its own and a little less his with every corpse. He could not fight his way out. Every enemy he killed to survive would be a bite the seed took out of *him.*\n\nSo Krishna Verma, with the power to consume the world rooted in his chest, made the only move a man could make who refused to become a mouth: he chose not to fight at all.\n\nHe chose to *run.*\n\n---\n\nBut he did not run empty-handed, and he did not run as a man with nothing — because the seed's power was not only hunger. It had another face, and in the half-second of the field falling on him Krishna found it: the seed consumed energy and matter, yes — and what it *did* with what it consumed was **build.** It turned what it ate into crystal. Constructs. Structure. The whole Expanse, he understood now, had not grown by accident — it was ten thousand years of the seed's parent-power doing the one thing the seed knew how to do, eating the world and rendering it into crystalline architecture. And the seed in his chest, fresh and small and rooted in him, reached out at his half-formed wish and **the alien land turned and answered for him.**\n\nHe did not eat. He *commanded.* The crystal of the deathzone, which had been the keeper's body and was now masterless, recognized the seed in him as the new center of itself — and when Krishna reached toward Tara and *willed* the ground to part, the crystal split open before him in a running corridor, and when the dozen masters lunged after, the crystal *rose*, walls of faceted dark slamming up out of the floor between Krishna and his pursuers, the deathzone itself sealing the thief's escape. He crossed the cradle-chamber in the gap his own stolen land opened for him, tore through the Vanguard's line and Dragomir's reaching hand by the simple expedient of the floor swallowing the space between them, caught Tara up out of the crystal that had been climbing her — *alive*, bleeding, his — and ran, carrying her, the deathzone folding open ahead of him and slamming shut behind, the seed pouring its strange building-strength out into the land to wall off a continent of enemies.\n\nThe masters of the world's traditions watched the merchant who had captured the prize and revealed a god's soul *flee* — carry off his wounded woman and run, the land itself shielding his back — and they did not know what they were seeing. They did not know about the Concord, or the seed, or the keeper's warning, or the reason a man with the power to eat them all chose instead to run. So they did what the woken world always did. They *guessed.* And the guess they made was the one Krishna needed them to make and the one that would cost him later in equal measure: *he's spent. He overreached, he's hollow, he's running because he's weak — and he still has the prize.*\n\nThe Expanse went quiet behind him as he ran. He felt it through the seed — the deep clock stopping, the crystal ceasing to creep outward, the assimilation going still. **The source was gone.** The keeper was dead and the seed that had driven the land's growth for ten thousand years was rooted in a fleeing man's chest now, and the Crystalline Expanse, the terraforming wound that had been eating the central plains, simply *stopped*, a dead garden of frozen horrors that would never grow another inch. He had ended it. That was the one clean thing in the whole ruinous day — he had killed the thing that was eating India's heart, and not one of the powers chasing him would ever know that was what he'd done.\n\nHe ran for the rim with Tara in his arms and a universe-eater's seed taking root in his chest and the consuming-sight whispering at the edge of every thought — *that one, eat that one, so much fuel, so easy* — and he held his grip, and he did not eat, and he ran.\n\n> **System Coin: 1,044,244 · The seed wakes fully — the SIGHT WHERE EVERYTHING IS CONSUMABLE (FE-level, small); it can make him a demon who eats people, beasts, worlds · Why he won't use it: feeding it loosens the grip toward becoming Concord — and near death it feeds UNCONSCIOUSLY (every kill = a bite out of him) · So he REFUSES to fight — he RUNS · Seed's other face: consume→build; the masterless crystal land ANSWERS him, opens his path & walls off pursuers · Grabs Tara (alive) and flees — read by all as WEAKNESS (they think he's spent & still holds the prize) · The Expanse STOPS — source gone; the wound on India's heart dead. Seed rooted, permanent; the consuming-sight whispering.**\n\n*End of Chapter 116.*","totalChapters":160,"chapterLiked":false}
